Professor in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick.
I work on late eighteenth and early nineteenth-century literature and religion, with a focus on poetry, and am broadly interested in religion and ecology, affect theory, and philosophy and literature. At Warwick, I convene the Philosophy and Literature program with Eileen John in the Department of Philosophy, and have a background in Critical & Cultural Theory and comparative literary studies.
With Mark Knight, I’m General Editor of the Bloomsbury series New Directions in Religion and Literature; and with Neil Badmington, co-edit The Year’s Work in Critical and Cultural Theory. I serve on the editorial boards of Literature and Theology and Literature Compass (Romanticism); and am a member of ASLE (Association for the Study of Literature & the Environment). I’m also a member of the Arts Emergency network.
